As a young girl from humble beginnings, Frances Jones learned how to be "industrious" with the simple things life provided. One of five children born in Rocky Mount, NC during the depression, Frances learned how to take lifes "lemons" and make lemonade for her and those around her. She had a "knack" for taking something old and unusable, cleaning and fixing it up and creating something not only usable, but desired by her patrons. An avid "flea marketeer" she learned the worth of things and often bought and sold to help supplement the income provided by the pay of her husband "Casey" an enlisted sailor.
Having grown up in the country, the one thing Casey wanted upon his retirement was to have his own little "farm". After convincing Frances of the possibilities of the old farm house and a promise to "fix it up", they purchased a piece of land. And so it was that on this little farm in Dry Fork, Virginia once owned by a tobacco farmer, a very spunky lady with a love for life and herb gardening in particular, decided to hone her skills. From her herb garden, which she so meticulously maintained, she began growing and making herb blends, herb vinegars and the like to sell at the local farmers market.
After tasting her "Herb Butter Blend" myself and seeing the delight of her loyal customers, it didn't take me long and I began helping her with some packaging ideas and her line of offerings began to grow. It wasn't long before we outgrew what she could grow in her herb garden, but we never compromised the same "home grown" freshness you find in our herb blends, teas and dip mixes today.
After mom's passing in 1999, things just kind of stopped and it wasn't until more than 10 years later, by the persuasion and dedication of her Grandson (my son) Tyler, that we decided to take what mom taught us and go again. Using the same recipes as mom and adding additional lines of product, The Sandy Creek Herb Co. has emerged to bring good taste and good opportunity to others, and hopefully honor the memory of a dear mother and "Nanny", Frances Jones, original founder of
